ELECTION RESULTS BEGIN TO TRICLE IN, TSHISEKEDI LEADING DIASPORA-FOREIGN NEWS 🗞️
The initial results of the presidential poll in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have started to come in after a chaotic election process. The incumbent president, Félix Tshisekedi, has received around 80% of the diaspora vote, according to the electoral commission. However, these results represent a small portion of the overall votes cast. The DRC held four concurrent polls to elect the president, lawmakers, and local councilors, but there were significant delays and bureaucratic issues throughout the process. Despite these challenges, voting continued in some areas on Friday. The Carter Center, which observed the elections, reported "serious irregularities" at some polling stations but noted that the ballot proceeded relatively well at others. The provisional results for the DRC's 26 provinces will be announced in the coming days. Tensions are expected to rise when the final results are announced due to the country's history of conflict and authoritarian rule. The United States has called for transparent and fair elections in the DRC.
